Our client had lost the use of one hand. His new mobility scooter was fitted with a handbrake which required two hands to operate – one to pull on the brake and the other to operate a locking latch.
A system was engineered to allow the brake to be both operated and locked with one hand
The client suffers from severe allergies to almost everything. The lady is sensitive to the chemicals used in glue.
Four-year-old boy has cerebral palsy and as part of his treatment he uses a treadmill to help strengthen his legs. He can’t reach the handrails so a lower set has been made to attach to the original rails.
Client with very little mobility, only movement in one hand and in his head, could no longer reach the electric wheelchair hand control on the side of his chair. Remap made a frame to relocate the hand control to his center so that he could reach it, the frame also carried a support for his tablet which was his only way to communicate.
Young woman unable to lift arms above her head needs to be able to wash, shampoo and condition her hair independently.
Additional arm gutter supports for a child’s zimmer frame to help a lady with very short stature and posture issues.
The client found that the height of her 3-wheeled walker could not be adjusted low enough for her. The handles were replaced by new ones giving the required height.

Milton Keynes panel were asked if we could help a client to put on his outdoor coat. He could not move his hands to behind him, which meant putting on a coat in the normal way almost impossible.
A powered device was made which, under the control of the Client, lifts the coat up his back then releases it when the coat collar reaches shoulder height

A replacement comfortable seat to replace the firm standard item on an Acorn Curve stairlift.
An 81 y-o woman had a Total Hip Replacement (THR). Since she already had home improvements in place (hand rails on stairs and doors, saddle boards removed, radio button alarm, 24/7 carer) she was released from hospital after four days – the only thing she needed and was given was a Rollator (wheeled walking frame, Zimmer frame). She found that the duvet on her bed restricted her movement, and a duvet support was requested for the period of her recovery. A length of 1/8 inch fencing wire was bent to shape and a brass ferrule with two grub screws was made in order to secure the ends of the wire.
Like most small boys Theo loves tractors, but when you are born with really short arms it makes steering a challenge. So Gerry, a fellow volunteer from the York panel, and I set about creating a safe fly-by-wire push along tractor to make the 20-month old lad very happy.
An 80 y.o. woman has severe arthritis of her right hip, and is awaiting a replacement. She needs two crutches in the meantime. A stand for the crutches was made from 6 mm MDF – a base plate, three vertical members, and two horizontal plates. The verticals are glued into 6 mm slots routed into the base plate. The lower horizontal is glued into a slot in the base plate, and has 3mm deep slots at the ends and in the middle to match up with the verticals. The upper horizontal has similar slots, and is glued in place. The stand has been in use for a week, and has proven to be stable.
The client had difficulty controlling her rollator on sloping ground where it tended to run away with her because she did not have the strength to apply the brakes for extended periods. A light weight rollator with drag brakes was bought and modified to allow the drag brakes to be operated without having to bend down.
