An elderly and frail client needed her 4-wheel walker to be adapted to give her better support to walk within her home. Whilst initially it was thought the support was only needed on one side, it became clear there was a great deal of benefit to adapt both sides and produce a balanced walker with gutter rests.
A client with reduced dexterity required a cup holder to suit a particularly large cup. The usual cupholders were unsuitable and so one was modified to make it adjustable to suit a range of cup sizes.
A kettle tipper adapted to suit measuring jugs used in cookery by a local special needs college
Adaptation of four-wheel walker for single-handed braking.
The client needed a tray to hold boccia balls mounting to his wheel chair to free up both hands. Current solutions employed by other players in the club were wooden lap trays with holes drilled for the balls.
After talking through some ideas it appeared to be relatively inexpensive to fit a similar type try to the wheelchair using a mountain bike stem and a short length of tube to allow height adjustment.
The client occasionally changes wheelchairs so the bike stem not only allowed for some adjustment in the position of the tray but avoided the need for any permanent modification to the chair.
After a trial period with a prototype a final design was made from profiled aluminium (although MDF is likely also fine at an appropriate thickness) and using some packing materials to keep the various part fitted snug.
Our client lives in a warden controlled building where they have recently changed the entry / exit doors on the flats and these are now locked from the inside by turning a small metal circular knob with flattened sides. Our client had difficulty turning this knob and had been leaving the door unlocked at night rather than locking it and being unable to unlock it. We were asked to investigate increasing the leverage on this doorknob.
An adaptation to a dinner fork to enable client to eat independently.

A pen-top remover for a jewellery maker who uses paper which she decorates using felt-tip pens. She has reduced strength in her hands due to Rheumatoid arthritis and has great difficulty removing the caps from the pens and glue-stick.
The client suffers from motor neurone impairment virtually robbing her of the use of her hands and fingers. She likes to read actual books (as opposed to Kindle books) but cannot now hold or manipulate a book. This project provides a device which has given the client sufficient control of a book to be easily able to read it.
