Wheelchair speed restrictor

A restrictor to allow a lady with MS to have more control over the speed of her wheelchair depending on the situation.

3D Printed Guitar Stand

A lady has a tumour on her shoulder which is painful when playing the guitar, which she does semi professionally, as the strap presses on her shoulder.
There was a stand available known as the “M Brace” which would allow the guitar to be played while still on a stand, but it was discontinued from production.
The task was to make a shaped holder for the guitars so that they can be played comfortably.

Single handed walking frame

Clients who have had a stroke and only have full use of one arm have difficulty using a walking frame. When picked up by the side handles or by the front crossbar the frame can hit ankles or furniture.

Changing mat restraint

The client is very active when being changed and their carer required a means of providing gentle restraint. A padded “trough” provided the solution.

Buggy rain canopy

The client’s new buggy does not have a rain canopy, so adapters were made to allow the canopy from the previous buggy to be fitted to the new one.

Wheelchair leg and arm supports

After a stroke, the client’s left side weakness means he needs his wheelchair to be adapted to provide additional support to his left arm and something to restrain his left leg to maintain proper posture. A gutter forearm support was added to the armrest and a plywood panel added to restrain the leg.

Cup holder

A client with reduced dexterity required a cup holder to suit a particularly large cup. The usual cupholders were unsuitable and so one was modified to make it adjustable to suit a range of cup sizes.

New backrest for WHILL C2

Jake’s new wheelchair needed some modification to suit him. There is very limited adjustment available in the WHILL C2 as supplied – his parents asked for a raised backrest and a way in which they could push the chair when in free-wheel mode. We made a custom addition that could be fixed to existing mounting points in the frame to support Jake’s back and with a built in handlebar.

Parkinsons chair support

A client needed support when sitting at a table to prevent falling sideways. In addition to using it at home, her husband wanted something portable so that he could take his wife out to restaurants.

Wheelchair Boccia Ball Holder

The client needed a tray to hold boccia balls mounting to his wheel chair to free up both hands. Current solutions employed by other players in the club were wooden lap trays with holes drilled for the balls.

After talking through some ideas it appeared to be relatively inexpensive to fit a similar type try to the wheelchair using a mountain bike stem and a short length of tube to allow height adjustment.

The client occasionally changes wheelchairs so the bike stem not only allowed for some adjustment in the position of the tray but avoided the need for any permanent modification to the chair.

After a trial period with a prototype a final design was made from profiled aluminium (although MDF is likely also fine at an appropriate thickness) and using some packing materials to keep the various part fitted snug.

Activity Boards

Activity boards for supporting children and adults to improve their fine motor skills.

Oxygen cylinder bracket for wheelchair

The client requires access to an oxygen cylinder and other medical supplies while using her specialist seating. Brackets were added to her chair tohold both.

Wheelchair footrest holders

Client uses a Rifton activity chair and finds that the footrests do not stay up during transfers. Velcro straps were added to hold them out of the way.
