4-wheeled Walker adaptation

An elderly and frail client needed her 4-wheel walker to be adapted to give her better support to walk within her home. Whilst initially it was thought the support was only needed on one side, it became clear there was a great deal of benefit to adapt both sides and produce a balanced walker with gutter rests.

Adapted Doorknob

Our client lives in a warden controlled building where they have recently changed the entry / exit doors on the flats and these are now locked from the inside by turning a small metal circular knob with flattened sides. Our client had difficulty turning this knob and had been leaving the door unlocked at night rather than locking it and being unable to unlock it. We were asked to investigate increasing the leverage on this doorknob.

Adaptive Sandals for Tricycle

Remap was contacted by a Paediatric Physiotherapist working at the Jarvis Centre in Guildford. They were looking for adaptive sandals for a trike for one of their patients who did not need a specialist trike but his feet kept slipping off the pedal. The physiotherapist had done some preliminary online research and found a DIY solution they thought would work well – I used it as a base for the design, with some improvements.

Device to put on a coat

Milton Keynes panel were asked if we could help a client to put on his outdoor coat. He could not move his hands to behind him, which meant putting on a coat in the normal way almost impossible.
A powered device was made which, under the control of the Client, lifts the coat up his back then releases it when the coat collar reaches shoulder height

Yale door opener

The client has a Yale lock that due to MS she cannot open. She needed a system that enabled her to open the door from her wheelchair but also that could be opened by her assistance dog. She did not want an automated door control system installed.

Front Door Lock Indicator

Our client was concerned that her mother was forgetting to lock her front door, or was unable to be sure that it was indeed locked.

Clear Walker Tray

Client with foot neuropathy needed a clear tray on his wheeled walker, so that he could see his feet, thus preventing tripping.

Travel Ramp

A family had rented a house close to their son’s care home to allow them to celebrate Christmas together. A shorter than usual, dismantlable and collapsable ramp was constructed for the job.

Accessibility Handle for BT 4600 DECT Phone

This is a handle which is designed to clip onto a BT 4600 DECT Phone to aid grip. It is for those with weaker hands and/or limited mobility, and means that if grip is lost, the phone remains in the hand rather than dropping.

Light Switch Adaptation

A wall mounted adaptation to allow a height impaired person to operate a standard light switch from lower down, without the need for rewiring or use of “smart” lighting.

Grab Rails for a double amputee

The Client , a lady, had lost both hands and feet due to sepsis. A stairlift had been installed in her house but there were two small steps to be negotiated dor which she required assistance.

Wheelchair Turntable

A man who had a stroke now uses an attendant propelled wheelchair. The access/egress from the house in which he resided was difficult with a need to negotiate a right angle bend in a very confined location. An infill next to a step provided a level access and incorporated a turntable on which the chair could be rotated to the new direction.
