Cup holder

A client with reduced dexterity required a cup holder to suit a particularly large cup. The usual cupholders were unsuitable and so one was modified to make it adjustable to suit a range of cup sizes.

Tilting bed

The client requires her daughter’s profiling bed to be kept flat when the head end is raised while she is continuously enterally fed over a 12 hour period. This is a standard feature on many such beds, but not this one. A wooden board was placed below the mattress that keeps the user flat when the head of the bed is raised.

New backrest for WHILL C2

Jake’s new wheelchair needed some modification to suit him. There is very limited adjustment available in the WHILL C2 as supplied – his parents asked for a raised backrest and a way in which they could push the chair when in free-wheel mode. We made a custom addition that could be fixed to existing mounting points in the frame to support Jake’s back and with a built in handlebar.

Jug tipper

A kettle tipper adapted to suit measuring jugs used in cookery by a local special needs college

Artist’s head harness

Lizzie has been using painting as a therapy for some time. Her cerebral palsy means that she can’t use her hands to paint and as she is in a wheelchair it makes it difficult for her to paint on a commercially available easel. She needed a head harness to hold the brush and a custom support structure for her work.

Coat Maid

An ingenious mechanism to allow a lady with severe arthritis in both shoulders to be able to put her coat on herself without needing help from anyone else.

Parkinsons chair support

A client needed support when sitting at a table to prevent falling sideways. In addition to using it at home, her husband wanted something portable so that he could take his wife out to restaurants.

Customised Bath Steps

Bespoke set of removable bathroom steps to aid a young boy with short legs to get in and out of the bath

Touch sensitive remote control

Our engineer, Neil, constructed a touch-sensitive remote control for our client, who is a lady that suffers from MS, Arthritis and respiratory problems, which made it previously difficult for her to operate the press buttons on her electric bed remote. She can now operate these herself, without needing to wake her husband at night for bed adjustments.

Head Support

Use of a modified travel cushion to give good head support

Assessment car for rehabilitation patients

Modification of a mini into an assessment car for the East Kent Neuro Rehabilitation Department to be used by their patients for practicing going in and out of a vehicle.

Double buggy wheelchair attachment

The client is wheelchair bound and wanted to be able to take her twins out without assistance. A special frame with two seats was designed to attach to her powered wheelchair

Wheelchair Boccia Ball Holder

The client needed a tray to hold boccia balls mounting to his wheel chair to free up both hands. Current solutions employed by other players in the club were wooden lap trays with holes drilled for the balls.

After talking through some ideas it appeared to be relatively inexpensive to fit a similar type try to the wheelchair using a mountain bike stem and a short length of tube to allow height adjustment.

The client occasionally changes wheelchairs so the bike stem not only allowed for some adjustment in the position of the tray but avoided the need for any permanent modification to the chair.

After a trial period with a prototype a final design was made from profiled aluminium (although MDF is likely also fine at an appropriate thickness) and using some packing materials to keep the various part fitted snug.
