Parkinsons chair support

A client needed support when sitting at a table to prevent falling sideways. In addition to using it at home, her husband wanted something portable so that he could take his wife out to restaurants.

Adapted Doorknob

Our client lives in a warden controlled building where they have recently changed the entry / exit doors on the flats and these are now locked from the inside by turning a small metal circular knob with flattened sides. Our client had difficulty turning this knob and had been leaving the door unlocked at night rather than locking it and being unable to unlock it. We were asked to investigate increasing the leverage on this doorknob.

Wheelchair footrest holders

Client uses a Rifton activity chair and finds that the footrests do not stay up during transfers. Velcro straps were added to hold them out of the way.

Bespoke Cutlery

An adaptation to a dinner fork to enable client to eat independently.

Chin controlled sewing machine

Wheelchair user with no muscle control in core muscles and legs requires to operate an electric sewing machine. Remap engineered a Bluetooth connection between the foot-pedal controller hanging under his chin, to the sewing machine receiver.

Child’s exercise bars

A 20-month old child with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) required a set of parallel bars for exercise. A pair of adjustable bars made from PVC tube was made.

Dog Treat Dispenser

We were asked by ‘Ability Dogs 4 Young Persons’, Isle of Wight, to come up with a way for the mobility scooter user to reward their dog with treat/s when their dog has achieved a specific task. The method of rewarding the dog had to be very easy for the user to perform. The system needed to deliver a single treat when operated

Handrail for church steps

An ancient church has two wide steps from the aisle up to the transept. One parishioner has stumbled and tripped and the Parish Council is concerned that another accident could result in serious injury.

Pen-top remover

A pen-top remover for a jewellery maker who uses paper which she decorates using felt-tip pens. She has reduced strength in her hands due to Rheumatoid arthritis and has great difficulty removing the caps from the pens and glue-stick.

Variable Pen Grip

Our client was a teenage girl who was unable to grip a pen due to her disability. The school she attended had a range of felt tip pens and paint brushes varying from 10mm diameter up to 45 mm diameter.

Adaptive Sandals for Tricycle

Remap was contacted by a Paediatric Physiotherapist working at the Jarvis Centre in Guildford. They were looking for adaptive sandals for a trike for one of their patients who did not need a specialist trike but his feet kept slipping off the pedal. The physiotherapist had done some preliminary online research and found a DIY solution they thought would work well – I used it as a base for the design, with some improvements.

Powered platforms for children

MK Remap were approached by Redway School in Milton Keynes to see if we could make a powered platform to help children with physical and learning difficulties gain confidence in their mobility. Two powered platforms were made, based on donated unwanted wheelchair chassis, which would allow a child in an ‘activity chair’ to drive and control the platform using simple ‘forwards / backwards / left / right ‘ buttons
