The client is a very active child who has learnt how to roll off their changing mat very quickly when their carer is distracted. A folding rail was added to provide restraint, while also allowing changing activities to be performed normally.
A young adult student of a very small stature (Morquios syndrome) couldn’t reach the toilet bowl to sit on it independently whilst at school (he required lifting to enable him to sit on the toilet, a requirement that nor the school or his carer could accomodate).
An elderly and frail client needed her 4-wheel walker to be adapted to give her better support to walk within her home. Whilst initially it was thought the support was only needed on one side, it became clear there was a great deal of benefit to adapt both sides and produce a balanced walker with gutter rests.
The client has severe curvature of the spine and needed lateral support when seated in his Seahorse toiletting chair. A special arm rest was made to replace the exisiting one.
A special school required some steps to allow children with reduced mobility to get up onto a changing bed with a minimum of assistance with a view to increasing their confidence
Bespoke set of removable bathroom steps to aid a young boy with short legs to get in and out of the bath
A hand rail to suit a particular transfer method from wheelchair to toilet.
A client with learning difficulties needs a table to support him in his home while his carers help him get dressed and bathed. A folding wall-mounted table was made.
A commercially available padded seat that has been reinforced to cope with a side transfer onto a toilet
The user lacks knee extensor strength. He can make standing transfers, but only from a high seat to a low seat, so that he can make the necessary turn with his knees fully extended. To enable showering in his wet-room, his shower chair needs to elevate, as his wheelchair does. We chose a hydraulic motorcycle platform lift, and installed it under the shower seat of a wheeled commode/shower chair, after removing the commode seat and
bowl.
Child of 9 with multiple limb amputations requested easer access to toilet when not using prosthetic legs
An elderly man was finding it difficult to access the family shower because of the 200mm step. A 100mm commercial step had been provided by the Occupational Therapist in order to present two smaller stages but the lack of handholds still made it difficult.
This project was simply a low step with handrails both sides. It provided more security and the possibility to help the ascent with the arms as well as legs.
Young woman unable to lift arms above her head needs to be able to wash, shampoo and condition her hair independently.
A method of swimming pool transfer when abroad
The client has some limited hand control and has been using a Smith and Nephew Roylan Inc. “TURN-ROUND” device with an integrated safety razor that allowed him to shave independently. This device is about 20 years old and some of it is disintegrating but, worse, the blades for the razor are no longer available which would make the device redundant. He came to Remap to see if we could replace it and incorporate a modern razor as he had failed to find anything similar or suitable anywhere.
